Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is a deeply personal and often distressing condition that can cause significant physical discomfort. Because the gut and the brain are so closely connected through the nervous system, living with unpredictable digestive symptoms can quietly take a heavy toll on your emotional well-being.
The impact of IBS often goes far beyond physical symptoms. Many people find themselves retreating from social events or constantly worrying about where the nearest restroom is, which can lead to social isolation, low confidence, and heightened anxiety. Over time, this constant worry creates a painful loop: stress triggers gut distress, and gut distress creates more stress.
It is so important to treat yourself with tenderness here. Your body is not working against you; it is simply responding to an overstimulated nervous system.
It is essential to see your GP for a formal diagnosis of IBS before we begin, to ensure your health is fully looked after. Once you have that diagnosis, hypnotherapy is officially recognised by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) as a beneficial approach for managing IBS symptoms—especially when other avenues haven’t brought relief.
Whether you choose Counselling or Hypnotherapy, we will work together to find a gentle, supportive path that honours your body. We will always move strictly at your own pace, meeting your experiences with soft curiosity, warmth, and complete understanding.
In Counselling, I offer a warm, safe sanctuary to process the emotional exhaustion and isolation that often accompanies chronic gut issues. Together, we can gently explore your stress triggers, look at how emotional tension affects your physical body, and use practical CBT and solution-focused strategies to help ease daily anxiety.
If you choose Solution-Focused Hypnotherapy, we focus directly on the gut-brain axis. Through comforting, relaxing trance and gentle guided imagery, we can soothe an overactive nervous system, help calm the digestive tract, and teach your mind and body how to release physical tension.
Together, we will work toward reducing flare-ups, restoring your inner confidence, and helping you feel comfortable, grounded, and at peace within your body again.
